Better Than Classic Strawberry Milkshake

Not much makes me smile more than a good milkshake. Like a reaaaaally good milkshake. For some reason they make me think of my grandfather and that’s a happy memory. This particular recipe incorporates fresh strawberries in addition to strawberry ice cream. And yes, those strawberries albeit fresh are sprinkled with some sugar, but this still counts as a healthier milkshake, right? Ok, probably not, but it is super delicious. What was most fun about creating this version was sharing the experience with my little one.
You can see from these couple shots, he was enjoying the photo shoot. He started digging in before I was done shooting, so I guess you can say these are really good. The pure enjoyment on his face is priceless. I could lie and say mine wasn’t the same, but it was #noshame. He also really likes to help out when I make smoothies, so he was happy to help when he thought I was making him his usual smoothie. I think he was even more excited when he discovered it was ice cream. I also love how he chucked the strawberry garnish to the side to get straight to business. I know where he gets that from.

But more about this milkshake, the fresh sweetened strawberries add an element of fresh strawberry sauce, which you could totally incorporate by the way. I happened to use local homemade strawberry ice cream that was out of this world. I think that the quality of the ice cream helps here too. Really, give this version a try and sit back and wait for the gleeful smile to take over your face!

  1. Cut the strawberries and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with some sugar and set aside. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. In you blender, scoop our a couple of healthy scoops of vanilla and strawberry ice cream. Add the milk. Add in the sugar coated strawberries.
  3. My blender happens to have a milkshake mode (it's like we were meant for each other!), If yours does not, you may want to run it a couple of times to make sure the ingredients are incorporated. If your milkshake is too think, add some additional milk to help thin it out. Serve immediately!
